Roles and Responsibilities
Title: Member, The Volgenau School of IT& Engineering Alumni Development Board
Term: A board member will serve a three-year term. The number of members on the Development Board shall be no more than 12.
The Director of Development shall serve as a member of this council and the Dean of the Volgenau School of IT& Engineering shall serve in an advisory capacity.
Qualifications: All members of the board must be an alumnus, friend or parent of a student of the Volgenau School of IT& Engineering or the University or have an affiliation thereof.
During the initial year, members will be selected by the Chair and the Director of Development and, thereafter, by the established membership of the council.
Objectives: The primary purpose of the Volgenau School of IT& Engineering Alumni Development Board at George Mason University is to increase the number and size of contributions from individuals, corporations, and foundations.
Attendance:
- Attend quarterly committee meetings.
- Attend special fund-raising and alumni outreach events if possible.
Specific Duties:
- Make a personal leadership gift of $1,000 or more annually.
- Solicit at least 5-10 additional individuals (not committee members).
- Work with committee members as well as the Volgenau School of IT& Engineering’s Director of Development to determine prospective individual and corporate donors. Provide introductions as necessary.
- Provide leadership within the committee and in the community on behalf of the school and its programs.
- Serve as an informal advocate for the school in the community.
- Assist in providing advice and counsel to the Director of Development in activities relating to alumni.
